Our Vision
Zoe Church is a diverse community that embodies abundant life (zoe) by practicing the way of Jesus, seeking reconciliation, and serving our city.
Our Values
We seek the tangible presence of God in everything we do. We seek the presence of others, knowing that God’s table is long. We seek to make God’s presence felt in our city through formation and mission.
Presence
Formation
We engage in communal and individual Biblical practices that shape us into people who act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with God. Formation flows from pursuing the presence of God and serves as the foundation for all of Zoe’s missional efforts.
We believe that our formation is expressed through engaging the needs, desires, joys, and pains of our city. We don’t want to do ministry at our city, but with our city. Our missional practices will flow from an ethos that says, “They are us, and we are them.”
Mission
Cultural Values
-
We look at others more than ourselves. We are not the main character. We have our eyes open to see what God is already doing around us & to notice how we can partner with Him. We are aware of the hurts, needs, and desires of our community.
-
We know our assignment and our assignment is our filter. We recognize our role in the arc of God redeeming & restoring all of creation. This doesn’t mean everything we do has to be labeled “Christian” - it is just who we are.
-
We know that generosity goes beyond a tithe. A sense of mission & awareness empower us to see and fill needs - quickly & intentionally.
-
We recognize that confession and repentance are essential to living an abundant life. We can be honest about our brokenness because God doesn’t need us to perform. We are a people who engage in authentic, vulnerable conversations with gentleness and care.
-
We expect that God is present, speaking, and active. We look for God and His work in the world in all things. We believe in and pray for miracles and healing.
-
We know that the tongue holds the power of life and death - so we encourage, build up, and edify. We engage in difficult conversations with courage and gentleness. We are life-speakers.
-
We know that God is creative and made us to create, too. Beauty is not superfluous or silly - it is a tool to deliver dignity to fellow image-bearers.
-
We believe that rest is an act of worship and warfare - affirming that God is in control. God’s command to rest is a gift. We know that God can do more with our 90% than we can do with our 100%, so we practice individual and communal rest. We intentionally practice weekly sabbath.
Our Beliefs
We affirm the Nicene & Apostles Creed.
We respect Christian tradition and recognize that we are one church within the Church across time.
Simplified: we aren’t trying to do anything new.
-
The Bible is the inspired, authoritative Word of God. It was inspired by the Holy Spirit through human authors and is useful for teaching, correcting, and sanctifying. It is infallible in that it does not fail in communicating truth and serves as the final authority on all it speaks.
-
Jesus is the eternal Son of God - second person of the Trinity and equal with God the Father. He was born of the Virgin Mary, lived a sinless life as fully man and fully God, then died on a cross as the penalty for our sins and rose from the dead to defeat sin, death, evil and ascended to the right hand of the Father. Today he serves as our representative, intercessor and advocate with God the Father.
-
Salvation is found in Jesus and is received by grace through faith. When we repent and accept the finished work of Jesus - His perfect obedience, substitutionary death, bodily resurrection, and ascension to the right hand of the Father - we are swept up into God’s grand act of salvation whereby all of things are made new.
